Kinesiology never ceases to amaze me. I am constantly reminded of the profound effects that can be felt almost immediately by my clients which has inspired me to write and explore something I hear repeatedly in my practice. Something that I too have personally experienced... Simply this - 'I didn’t know how stressed I was until I wasn't!'

There are many reasons why people seek help but often it’s to address a mental, emotional or physical health issue. Sadly stress, anxiety and/or depression are the main reasons that people seek support and help with 75-90% of all initial doctor office consults being for a stress related issue or complaint.

What’s interesting is without fail, every time a new client presents with a mental or emotional issue, there is an accompanying physical issue or physical symptom. Respectively, every time someone presents with a physical problem or symptom, there is always an accompanying mental or emotional stress and issue. This connection is important to acknowledge, and an essential component to address when healing. This is also the basis and underlying philosophy of holistic healing.

We are a physical body with an intricately designed energetic system that is inter-connected. What effects one layer, like a ripple in a pond, effects all layers. Our physical body is our most dense layer. You can see it, feel it and touch it so it is very easy to see and feel the physical symptoms and issues. Our energetic layers are very subtle, so for many the blocks and issues go un-noticed, for a while anyway. Eventually, like a seed, the issue works its way through the layers to the surface, which in our case, is our physical body and may show up as pain, disease, chronic illness and/or anxiety, depression and exhaustion.

When assessing new clients, holistic practitioners are carefully monitoring the stress, anxiety and dis-ease in the physical body, the emotional, mental and spiritual world, and the subtle energetic layers. What’s alarming is that people are often unaware of how much stress is effecting their subtle energetic system and how much it has manifested into their physical. Stress and anxiety has been present for so long that it’s symptoms have become their ‘norm’. When stress and anxiety hit the nervous system and settle in it effects every aspect of our system - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. However, the symptoms become so regular and are so common we tend to get used to them. Often we pop a pill to mask them or just begin to believe that ‘this is as good as it gets’. It’s not until we hit rock bottom, or our symptoms become so loud and we can no longer ignore them that we finally seek help.

Working holistically with individuals means addressing the whole system - the physical, the subtle energetic systems, the mental & emotional world and the spiritual world or higher consciousness – the true self.

So how does Kinesiology fit into all of this?

Kinesiology can have a profound impact within the energetic layers which filter through into the physical and often the results can be felt immediately. An example of this is when we address the fight/flight response within a balance. Every day experiences such as driving, confrontations, relationships, work deadlines, parenting demands or any kind of pressure can trigger our fight/flight response. On top of our emotional traumas and past experiences many people are hit with 'stress after stress'. Our body finds it difficult to reset the 'stress switch' so we end up in a constant state of fight/flight. Within a Kinesiology balance we have the tools and techniques to switch the brain from this survival stress state back to executive functioning, the result being we can begin to bring the nervous system back into balance which has an immediate physiological impact. People feel calm and can think rationally.

This is really the tip of the ice-burg of what can be achieved within a session. People are complicated and our systems are constantly communicating, interacting and reacting to one other, responding to every little detail, every experience and every interaction - conscious and unconscious. Kinesiology has the ability to tap into these systems and trigger a healing response that ripples throughout the entire system. Within a balance, many stressors are brought to the surface and various techniques are applied to ‘diffuse’ the stress. Depending on where the stress is held, essences, tuning forks, Reiki and/or stimulating acupoints, lymphatics or emotional stress release points can all be used within the correction techniques. The gentle nature of Kinesiology means that a session moves along at a pace the client is comfortable with, yet supports powerful and natural healing.

The initial results of calmness and clear thought often lasts a number of days. After a couple of sessions people begin to report this feeling is lasting more like weeks. Any stress and anxiety that does arise often never reaches the intensity it has in the past, and doesn’t generally last as long. As the work continues and the core issues are addressed, the body’s homeostasis is continually re-set or 'balanced'. Other physical issues and symptoms often arise and are also addressed and balanced within sessions. Many people often report these other symptoms such as digestive issues, aches and pains, lethargy and/or sleep issues begin to improve. What's interesting though is that no Kinesiology practitioner I know claim to diagnose or cure anything. We just go where the body leads us and we facilitate a process that triggers your body to heal itself. The results and feedback that is continually reported is often the same. Progressive and positive. That’s the amazing thing about Kinesiology. It’s your body talking to the practitioner and telling them where to go. No guessing, no assumptions. Just good honest communication. And the results? Apart from what I have already shared, without fail, time and time again people say to me, ‘Wow, I never knew how stressed out I was until I wasn’t'. It is important to note, every case and every individual is different. Healing always varies between individuals, and the journey is always unique.

My passion for holistic health, natural remedies and more specifically - Kinesiology - began after assessing my family and realising that all of us were in a state of poor health and stress, and the medical system was failing us. I am not anti-medical. It is an important part of the healing spectrum. However western medicine is rooted in reductionism, which simply means looking at a piece of the system rather than the whole. This view and approach is necessary in certain situations however I had been suffering chronic digestive issues for years and my family were suffering everything from chronic asthma, food intolerance's and allergies, to chronic pain, depression and anxiety. I decided to try a holistic approach. Looking into some natural, healthy alternatives I began seeing a practitioner at Karrinyup Wellness Centre who used the gentle art of muscle monitoring - Kinesiology - to assess my body's needs. My body was talking to him and he was listening. For the first time in a long time my health started to improve. As I improved I was able to come off all the medications I had been prescribed over the years. My tummy and digestive issues improved and my energy levels picked up. To add to that, I felt calm, peaceful and happy. For the first time that I could remember, I did not have a knot in my tummy. I no longer felt agitated, stressed or anxious on a daily basis. It was only then that I realised - I had been suffering chronic anxiety and stress for the best part of my life but like many, I didn’t even know I was until I wasn't. My family also began holistic treatment and Kinesiology and now we are all a bunch of happy, healthy, energy balls who live, laugh and love the holistic path to health and healing!

Practicing Kinesiology, addressing the emotional components of our experiences and issues, and supporting a treatment plan with nutritional advice and mindfulness techniques has been an incredible journey and I have seen people turn their lives around! I am still amazed though when I hear a client comment that they never realised how stressed or anxious they were until - after a balance - they weren't. For many, it was the first time they could remember feeling so calm and well in their body. That is the effect of Kinesiology.

We human beings are very good at adapting. We get used to being in a state of stress and anxiety, often until our health begins to fail us. My recommendation? Don’t ignore the symptoms. The niggles, the aches, the pain and discomfort - physical, mental or emotional. Address it. Invest in your long term health and wellness and investigate your inner world. Get to know yourself and start a journey of healing and growing. It’s pretty amazing…

When we heal holistically by addressing the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects, we balance the system as a whole and we actually experience what life is meant to feel like - which is our divine right to thrive! And I have to say, it feels pretty good!
